Dream Glow is a nice effect you can make with Adobe Photoshop. I used Adobe Photoshop CS2. A dreamy glow is created by accentuating the whites in an image. We will use multiple layers, color range select and gaussian blur. I hope you will find this tutorial useful for creating avatars, logos or just playing around with your pictures.
Step 1.
Open a picture. I used a picture of a well known cpt. Jack Sparrow. The effect will work on any picture but it is even better to have an object that is allready somewhat shiny (like the car example on the next page).
Mouse Over to see the end result
Step 2.
Duplicate the Background Layer (right click on the background layer and select Duplicate)
Step 3. Select
Select the duplicated layer by clicking on it in the Layer Window because we will be working on it for a while. Then click on Select -> Color Range and click with the eyedroper on the part of the image which is the most white.
Step 4. Fill
Click on Edit -> Fill and choose White. Then Select -> Inverse to select the other part of the picture and fill it with Black using the same procedure.
Step 5. Gaussian Blur
Deselect. Click on Filter -> Blur -> Gaussian Blur and select about 4,3 pixels of Radius.
Now we have a blury black and white photo of Jack Sparrow, not the best look for him. But we still have one important step to do.
